Project: “Elie’s Overcoat” Historical Short Film.
Role: Producer.

The Challenge: Recreating World War II Romania in the middle of Southern California is a massive logistical and creative hurdle. We had to take a microbudget and transform the dry landscape of Topanga Canyon into a snowy Transylvanian winter in 1945. The project required a total immersion into a period world governed by the Iron Guard, which meant we had to manage everything from fake snow and period-accurate set dressing to vintage costumes, weaponry, and the added complexity of working with both children and animals on a very tight string.

The Solution: We focused on high-impact production design and tactical resource management to stretch every dollar. We engineered the environment using practical effects to mimic a harsh European winter and sourced authentic props and costumes to anchor the film in its historical reality. We coordinated a lean, focused crew to handle the sensitivities of filming with child actors and live animals, ensuring that the heavy emotional weight of this true story remained the priority. My goal was to prove that with enough foresight and creative grit, you can build a convincing, high-stakes historical world without a Hollywood studio budget.

Deliverables: We produced a historically accurate short film by successfully overseeing the full scale recreation of 1940s Romania in a domestic location. I managed the complex integration of practical environmental effects, period costumes, and weapons while coordinating the specialized needs of child and animal performers on set. The final result was a visually stunning and emotionally resonant piece that demonstrated my ability to deliver high-end historical production value through meticulous logistical planning and resourceful creative direction.
